                                                       poem for sandile

1. Examples of abstractions I don’t like: race, patriotism, love, hope, feminism, poem.

2. All words are abstractions. My desk is not an abstraction; it exists in concrete reality. I can touch it. The word "desk" does not exist in concrete reality. I cannot touch it.

3. I want to communicate. Tell me about "desk" not "furniture." "Desk" is more specific than "furniture." I can communicate if you are specific.

"Desk is more concrete than furniture" is an assumption. Ok.

4. Pride does not exist in concrete reality. To me pride does not exist abstractly, as an emotion.

For some people it does. This is Ok.

5. I cannot touch an emotion.

6. Emotions have an effect in concrete reality.

7. The dictionary defines pride as a feeling of pleasure. Happiness is defined as a feeling of pleasure. Contentment is defined as a feeling of happiness – a feeling of pleasure.

8. Abstractions affect the way people think. You tell me you “apologise” then continue doing that thing which you “apologised” for.

9. What effect does "I’m sorry" have in concrete reality?

10. An apology in concrete reality would have to be an action in concrete reality
